Judicial Surveys

Experienced. Fair. Dedicated to Justice for All.

Judge Scott Janowitz was born and raised in Miami with his parents and sisters. He attended Pinecrest Elementary School, Southwood Middle School, and Ransom Everglades High School. Service and education were important to Judge Janowitz as his parents were in the medical field and his father was the first person in the family to go to college.

Judge Janowitz earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University, with a concentration of Social Decision Systems. For the next three years, he became a business and technology consultant, transforming businesses through the use of technology.

Desiring more service, Judge Janowitz attended law school at the University of Miami, graduating in December 2005. He then served as an Assistant State Attorney, prosecuting hundreds of cases and becoming a Division Chief. He supervised young lawyers and tried dozens of cases with crimes from DUI to homicide.

Prior to his judicial appointment, Judge Janowitz worked at several firms, including founding his own small-business law firm to help private citizens and small businesses. He focused on insurance litigation and criminal defense. He is Martindale-Hubbell AV-rated in both Insurance and Criminal law, which means he was peer recognized for having the highest levels of integrity and skill. Judge Janowitz is licensed as an attorney in all state and federal courts in Florida, as well licensed in the states of Colorado and Georgia.

Due to his character, skill, and many years of attorney experience of over 85 jury trials as an attorney, Governor Ron DeSantis appointed Judge Janowitz to the County County bench in April 2020, at the beginning of the COVID pandemic. Judge Janowitz was assigned to the County Civil division, where he has presided over thousands of cases.

Judge Janowitz immediately showed his dedication to the community. He helped transition the court system to Zoom, to allow for access to the courts to the entire community. He developed an eviction dispute resolution portal (courtHELP) for Miami-Dade County to combat the housing crisis facing the community.

Judge Janowitz has recently presided in over 60 trials. He was appointed as an Associate Administrative Judge for County Civil within a year of taking the bench; it is truly a remarkable feat that demonstrates the competency and dedication of Judge Janowitz.

Judge Janowitz is active in the legal community, participating in numerous voluntary bar associations. He has served the Florida Bar by being a member of the Legal Needs of Children Committee, chairing the Direct Filing Subcommittee. Presently Judge Janowitz is a member of the Code & Rules of Evidence Committee. He is a lifelong member of Temple Beth Am, and is active in his West Miami city and his children's public school. He is happily married to his wife Yonah for over 8 years, and has three beautiful children - 6-year-old twins Shelby and Nathan, and 3 year old Marcus.
